LCC Student Secures National Title at Leadership Conference

July 16, 2020

Parsons, Kansas, July 16, 2020 —

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) today announced the winners for the 2020 National Leadership Experience (NLE), an online event that convened over 1200 collegiate level students through competition, leadership sessions, and networking.

The NLE featured the FBLA-PBL National Awards Program (NAP), also known as competitive events, which recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. The NLE featured 60 plus events at the collegiate level. Events were modified to accommodate the online experience as well as offer more event opportunities to students. The PBL competitive events prepare college students for the workforce by expanding their classroom experience with real-world scenarios. FBLA-PBL has forged partnerships with industry leaders to underwrite competitive events and scholarships for students achieving national ranking. NLE also featured the elections of national officers during which time delegates from across the country elected six PBL division officers.

Labette Community College student, Peyton Simpson, earned a National Champion title by receiving first place in the Desktop Publishing competition. In addition to the National Champion title, Simpson earned third place nationally in the Public Speaking category. LCC students, Spencer Grillot and Josie Smith, also represented the college at NLE.

“I am so proud of my students! They each handled the changes in this unique virtual conference experience with the utmost fortitude,” said LCC PBL Advisor, Cathy Kibler. “In the 17 years of my involvement with LCC PBL, Peyton is the first student to earn a national title. They all deserve to be recognized for their outstanding efforts at the National PBL Experience. These students will be major contributors to the business world as well as their communities.”
