LCC Honor Students Receive Awards at Conference

Labette Community College Tau Theta Chapter displays awards received at the Heartland Regional Phi Theta Kappa Convention held in Wichita on March 3-5. Labette Community College (LCC) Tau Theta Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society attended the inaugural Heartland Region Convention on March 3-5 in Wichita. During the weekend, the attendees heard from keynote speakers, attended breakout sessions, and participated in a service project to benefit McConnell Air Force Base.
“LCC Tau Theta Chapter students continue to earn top awards and recognition,” said advisor Tammy Fuentez. “I am proud of their hard work they put forth academically as well as in extracurricular activities.” Fuentez serves as the Phi Theta Kappa Heartland Regional Coordinator and LCC’s Vice President of Student Affairs.
The honor students represented LCC well at the regional conference with Haley Farran elected as the Heartland Regional President and Brooklynn Tinker elected as the Regional Vice President of Fellowship. The chapter also earned many awards throughout the weekend.
The chapter returned to campus with the following awards:
- Distinguished Chapter Award, 2nd place
- Honors in Action Project Winner
- College Project Award, 3rd Place
- Service Award, 4th Place
- Yearbook Award, 2nd Place
- Distinguished Chapter Officer Winner – Haley Farran
- Distinguished Chapter Member Winner – Brooklynn Tinker
- Distinguished Chapter Officer Team Winner – Haley Farran, Taylore Hudgins, Baylee
- Montee, Abigail Vincent
- Distinguished Alumni Award Winner – Ashley Horton
- Achievement in Art, Ceramics/Sculpture Winner – Leticia Franco
- Achievement in Literature, Research, 4th Place – Abegail Wilson
- Achievement in Literature, Creative, 4th Place – Mariah Curley
- Achievement in Literature, Creative, 5th Place – Heather Boss
The Tau Theta Chapter will travel to Columbus, Ohio in April for the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention.
