Labette Cardinals Men's Basketball Team Hosts Kansas City Blue Devils in Tightly Contested Home Finale
February 29, 2024By: Jaran Dixon, Makayla Washington, and Makayla Adams Parsons, KS – The Labette Cardinals men's basketball team, in the final stretch of the 2023-2024 season, hosted the Kansas City Blue Devils for a thrilling home finale and Sophomore night. The game saw a tight matchup between the two Jayhawk Conference rivals before the Blue Devils pulled away, securing a 76-52 win over the Cardinals. Despite a strong start, particularly on the defensive end, the Cardinals struggled as the game progressed, with Kansas City gaining momentum from beyond the arc. Head Coach Jason Hinson reflected on the challenging match, acknowledging their opponents' talent and coaching prowess. Hinson remarked postgame, “The game got away from us quick. They are a very challenging team, and that can happen if you don’t do things very detailed and follow the game plan. They’re extremely talented and extremely well-coached. That’s why they lead the Jayhawk Conference right now. It can happen quickly if you get away from what we are trying to do.” Looking ahead, Coach Hinson emphasized the need for consistency and motivation in their final regular-season game against Allen County Red Devils on February 28th, 2024. The Cardinals aim to rectify their performance before heading into the playoffs on March 2nd, 2024. "The biggest downfall right now is we are too up and down. At the end of the day, they're still young adults. We are going to continue to work on it. It's not all X's and O's. I've got to get our team to play hard and motivated," added Coach Hinson. The Cardinals will continue their preparations as they travel to Allen County to face the Red Devils on February 28th at 7:30 pm, seeking a resurgence in form and momentum ahead of the playoffs. |
