July 18, 2024 |
The Labette Community College Foundation and Alumni Association welcomed new officers and three new members to its Board of Directors at its July 15 meeting. To kick off the meeting, the presidential gavel was ceremoniously passed from last year's president, Gary Goodnight, to new president, Lorraine Evert.
Other new officers include JR Keene as the vice president, Coleen Carter as the secretary and Courtney Owens as treasurer. Gary Goodnight moved to the immediate past president position.
Dennis Dodd ’13, Sherry Dunlay, and Kanak Patel ’95 and ’98 began terms as new directors at the meeting too. Dodd serves as Deputy Police Chief for the City of Parsons. Dunlay is the Secondary Coordinator for TriCounty Special Education Interlocal, and Patel is Vice President at Parsons Commercial Bank.
“We are excited to welcome Dennis, Sherry and Kanak to the Foundation Board,” said Foundation Board President Evert. “Their expertise, strong community connections and commitment to making education accessible will undoubtedly benefit LCC and the Foundation.”
The LCC Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of community leaders, LCC graduates, and other friends and supporters who are responsible for overseeing the Foundation’s assets. The Foundation’s goal is to remove barriers to student success at LCC by providing resources to make higher education more attainable. The Foundation will award more than $150,000 this year in scholarships directly to LCC students. The Foundation has also been the driving force for many recent campus expansions and improvements through successful capital campaigns.
“These officers and board members generously volunteer their time and expertise to guide the LCC Foundation,” said Lindi Forbes, Executive Director. “As we embark on new initiatives in the coming year, their experience and knowledge will be invaluable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all past and present foundation board members for their unwavering support and active participation."
