LCC Psychology Students and Faculty Shine at KCKCC Research Conference

Parsons, KS – Associate Professor and Psychology club sponsor, DeAnna Huffman and Case Manager, Regina Decker, along with seven Labette Community College (LCC) psychology students, proudly represented their institution at the annual KCKCC Student Research Conference in the Psychological Sciences on Friday, April 4.

Each student had the opportunity to present original research developed during their coursework. The symposium, which brings together students from community colleges and universities across Kansas along with neighboring states, provides a platform for emerging scholars to share their findings.

Five students were selected to deliver oral presentations, showcasing their work to a broader audience:

Jen Palmer – "The Importance of Basic Needs at All Stages of Life"
Grace Arneson – "Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.)"
Meagan Hosier – "The Correlation Between Childhood Trauma and Sexual Predators"
Jerrica Magner – "How Childhood Neglect Affects Our Attachment Styles"
Summer Mantzey – "The Effects of Cannabis on Different Mental Illnesses"

"I am incredibly proud of my students for presenting their research at the conference. Their hard work, dedication, and the confidence they displayed are a true testament to their growth and potential in the field of psychology,” said Huffman.

In addition, Huffman was honored with the opportunity to deliver the faculty address. Her talk, titled “Empowering Minds: The Significance of Integrating Empirical Research into Community College Psychology Curricula,” emphasized the value of hands-on research experiences in undergraduate education.

The KCKCC Student Research Conference in the Psychological Sciences promotes academic exchange, allowing students and faculty alike to share insight, and foster a deeper understanding of the field. LCC is proud to share the achievements of our students and faculty at this event!
