Labette Community College Board of Trustees Member Carl Hoskins Retires After 12 Years of Service

Parsons, Kansas — Labette Community College (LCC) announces the retirement of Carl Hoskins from the LCC Board of Trustees following 12 years of dedicated service to the college and its communities.

Hoskins joined the Board of Trustees in 2013, bringing with him a lifelong commitment to public service and community improvement. “I have always been involved in wanting to make a difference and betterment for our communities,” Hoskins said, noting his earlier service on the Oswego School Board, where he helped guide major facility upgrades and worked with the City of Oswego to secure grants for critical sewer and water improvements.

Throughout his tenure at LCC, Hoskins remained a strong advocate for student success, fiscal responsibility, and expanding educational opportunity. “I wanted to make a difference and provide some insight on how we make an educational opportunity work and grow in our community,” he said.

Hoskins played a key role in guiding the college through a period of significant growth and development. During his time on the board, the college completed major projects including the construction of the Zetmeir Health Science Building, development of workforce training facilities, facilitation of Cardinal Villas student housing, relocation of the library, and expansion of the Zetmeir Athletic Complex and the Cherokee Center. “We have grown… and I am proud to have been a part of this,” Hoskins said.

“Trustee Carl Hoskins has been a wonderful supporter of LCC and its students. He was the Board Chair when I first began as the college president and has always supported the work we have done,” said Dr. Mark Watkins, President of Labette Community College. “We will miss Carl but know that his public service has had a positive impact on the lives of so many students. We are grateful for Trustee Hoskins.”

In addition to his service as a trustee, Hoskins has also been a longtime and familiar presence at Labette Community College Foundation and Alumni Association events. Over the years, he has consistently attended and supported special events and campaigns that celebrate and sustain the college, including the annual Auction for Scholarships, Pathways to the Future Campaign, Cardinal Citee reception, and numerous other Foundation and alumni gatherings. His continued involvement and contributions reflect a deep personal commitment to LCC’s mission.

Hoskins also credited his decision to serve on the board to seeing the direct impact trustees can have on students. He reflected on conversations with former trustee Lorraine Evert, who expressed “how gratifying it was to see what a difference it made for students to obtain an additional level of education and skills.” When a long-time board member stepped down, Hoskins applied, completed the interview process, and was selected to fill the unexpired term.

“I have been honored to serve Labette Community College and the residents of Labette County,” Hoskins said. “LCC plays a vital role in our community, and I am proud to have been a small part of its continued success. I have full confidence in the college’s leadership and future direction.”

The Labette Community College Board of Trustees and the entire LCC community extend their sincere appreciation to Carl Hoskins for his 12 years of service and wish him the very best in his retirement.
