Labette Community College Names Jermaine Maybank Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach
Parsons, KS — Labette Community College has announced the return of former assistant men’s basketball coach Jermaine Maybank to campus, where he will serve as interim head men’s basketball coach for the upcoming season.
Maybank previously joined the Cardinals coaching staff as an assistant in August 2024, bringing with him experience as both a player and coach. Maybank provides a strong collegiate playing background to Labette, having competed at multiple levels of college basketball. Maybank played collegiately at Independence Community College, St. John’s University, and Kansas State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in sports management at K-State.
Following his collegiate career, Maybank played professional basketball overseas, including stints in Brazil and Australia. His coaching background spans youth leagues and high school programs.
“Coming back to LCC as the interim head men’s basketball coach is truly a special honor for me,” Maybank said. “This was the place that gave me my first opportunity to coach at the college level. This campus, this community, and this program helped shape who I am as a coach, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return and lead the men’s basketball program. My time away at Northern Oklahoma College–Enid allowed me to grow professionally, but Labette has always felt like home. I’m excited to build something our players, faculty, fans, alumni, and community can all be proud of, and I’m ready to get to work.”
Maybank’s return to a leadership role comes at an important moment for the college, as the men’s basketball program looks to continue providing stability for its student-athletes and grow momentum entering the conference season.
“Coach Maybank brings positive energy and a strong understanding of our student-athletes and of LCC at a pivotal time in the men’s basketball season,” said Kelly Kirkpatrick, Vice President of Student Affairs. “His experience within the program gives us confidence that he is the right person to lead our student-athletes and Cardinal Athletics forward.”
The Labette Cardinals men’s basketball team will continue to compete in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference during the upcoming season.
