LCC’s 27th Annual Auction for Scholarships Surpasses Goal

The Labette Community College Foundation & Alumni Association is pleased to announce the successful outcome of the 27th Annual Auction for Scholarships, which raised $60,627 to support student scholarships at Labette Community College.

Held as a combination of live and online events, this year’s Auction exceeded its fundraising goal of $55,000 thanks to the generosity and support of the community. The event featured donations from businesses, organizations, alumni, and individuals throughout the region.

A total of 238 items were donated by 131 donors, helping create an exciting and diverse auction experience for participants. In addition, 19 supporters made direct cash gifts to scholarships through the auction platform. Overall, the Auction engaged 299 individual bidders, demonstrating strong community participation and enthusiasm for helping LCC students succeed.

This year’s event also included a special tribute to Mark Watkins, as it marked his final Auction for Scholarships as President of Labette Community College before his retirement this summer. Watkins was recognized during the evening for his many years of leadership and steadfast support of student success and Foundation initiatives.

As part of the tribute, Lorraine Evert performed a special rendition of the song “Garden Party” featuring her custom-written lyrics honoring Watkins and his contributions to LCC and its students. The musical accompaniment was played and recorded by retired LCC administrator Joe Burke.

“The support we received this year was incredible,” said Lindi Forbes, Executive Director of the LCC Foundation & Alumni Association. “Every donation, sponsorship, bid, and gift helps remove financial barriers for students and gives them the opportunity to pursue their educational and career goals. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s Auction such a success.”

The Auction for Scholarships remains the Foundation’s most impactful annual fundraiser. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $1 million to support scholarships for LCC students.
