Labette Community College Announces New Student Orientation and Welcome Week

PARSONS — Labette Community College is excited to announce its annual New Student Orientation. The multi-day NSO event runs Aug. 13 and 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the main campus. Incoming freshmen and transfer students will receive a comprehensive introduction to campus life, student resources and have the opportunity to meet many faculty and staff.

Students enrolled in classes should have received an email inviting them to pre-register to participate in one of the two days of orientation.

Orientation Highlights

• Check-In and Interactive B-I-N-G-O:  Students will check in at the gymnasium, meet other students, faculty and staff, and play a game as other students arrive and check-in.
• Welcome: Students will be welcomed by LCC president Dr. Jason Sharp.
• Prize Drawings: Drawings will take place for a variety of prizes to be given out.
• Campus Tours: Guided group tours will be led to help students locate classes, educational support services, the student lounge, the library, and dining, as well as familiarize students with online access to services.
• Cook Out: After tours conclude, a cook out for students is planned from noon to 1 p.m. in the Breezeway between the Student Union and Student Success Center and Annex. Commercial Bank will be cooking for students one day and LCC administration, faculty and staff will be cooking for students the second day.

“We are thrilled to welcome our newest students to campus,” said Director of Public Relations Colleen Williamson. “Orientation is the first step in acquainting students with LCC, its people, and building a strong campus community to set our students up for long-term success.”

Building energy for the new school year, during the first week of classes all students will be treated to a variety of free food, fun, prizes, and giveaways.

• Monday, students can enjoy a free French toast breakfast in the Cardinal Cafe from 7 to 10 a.m. From 10 to 2 p.m., there will be a free T-shirt giveaway in the Breezeway.
• Tuesday, students can partake of a free lunch of hotdogs and tots and the Cardinal Cafe from 11 to 1:30 p.m. Another free T-shirt giveaway will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Breezeway.
• Wednesday, Carnival Games and cup giveaways will take place in the Breezeway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and snow cones and popcorn will be handed out from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Thursday, there will be a free cup giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Welcome week culminates Thursday night with a big Parking Lot Party at 7 p.m. in the Zetmeir Health Science Building parking lot. There will be free food, giveaways, outdoor games and of course good music. All students are invited. 

Free drinks and snacks will be available throughout the week for all students.

During this week-long welcome event, Golden Tickets will also be hidden around campus. Students who locate a ticket can turn it in for a special prize. 

“Welcome Week is one of my favorite times of the year because it represents new beginnings, new friendships, and new opportunities,” Student Life Associate Harrison Hall said. “Whether you're returning to LCC or stepping onto our campus for the very first time, we want you to know that you belong here. We encourage every student to get involved, attend our events, share a meal with us, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Sometimes all it takes is showing up for a free lunch or picking up a Welcome Week T-shirt to meet someone who becomes a lifelong friend. We are incredibly excited to welcome everyone to campus and can't wait to see what this year has in store for our Cardinal family.”
