Thanks to the continued success of the Hughes Matching Fund initiative, another new endowed scholarship has been created to benefit Labette Community College (LCC) students. The Rod and Karen Landrum family recently established the Seth Adams Scholarship Endowed by Rod and Karen Landrum with a $5,000 gift, which will receive an additional $2,500 in matching funds from the Hughes Fund.

The Seth Adams Scholarship will be open to students of all majors and can be used to help cover tuition, fees, and/or books. It honors the Landrums’ son, Seth Adams, and reflects the family’s deep and ongoing commitment to education and community service. Rod Landrum, a longtime member of the LCC Board of Trustees, shared, “Of all the boards I've ever been on, the LCC board is the most enjoyable and impactful. LCC touches the lives of so many people in Labette County, the state of Kansas, nationally, and even internationally.”

Karen Landrum, an LCC alumna, has strong personal ties to the Hughes family. She grew up in the same neighborhood and fondly remembers spending quality time at their home. Over the years, she and Rod have remained close friends with the Hughes family, making it especially meaningful to them to help carry on Pete and Mary Hughes’ legacy through this scholarship initiative.

LCC President Mark Watkins expressed his appreciation. “Rod’s leadership on the Board of Trustees has been vital to the college. He brings vision and a deep belief in the power of education. This scholarship is a meaningful extension of Rod and Karen’s legacy of service, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support of LCC students.” The Hughes Matching Fund, launched earlier this year, was made possible through a generous estate gift from Pete and Mary Hughes. The program offers a 50% match for new endowed scholarships of $5,000 or more, helping to expand student support and inspire philanthropic giving.
