Parsons, KS- Labette Community College has completed the purchase of the former Bank of Parsons building at 1230 Main, Parsons. The LCC Board of Trustees approved the purchase of the building in fall 2014. The Bank of Parsons relocated recently to a newly constructed building at 16th & Broadway.

“LCC is a land-locked campus. In the past 10 years, however, our leadership and Board have actively envisioned the expansion of our physical plant and program offerings to best serve our students and community,” said LCC President, Dr. George C. Knox. “LCC continues to grow in space and student services to provide economic vitality for our community. We are exploring renovation costs of the 1230 Main location to present to the Board of Trustees.”

The college plans to relocate the LCC Library to the 1230 Main location. The Library is currently on the ground floor of the Main building. The relocation would allow for better accessibility for students and community members to use library services such as book check out, online databases and interlibrary loans. Materials including magazines, newspapers, reference materials and reserve materials to read are also available in the library. Last year, the library added retro-style booths for study group seating, in addition to the computer lab for research and writing.

“This move will allow us to update the library and place us in a more secure and visible location,” said Library director Scotty Zollars. “This will allow us to expand our hours in the future, and will place us more in line with or colleagues at other two-year institutions in the state.”

The move of the library would leave the current space vacant. The plan is to utilize the available space as a multipurpose event space. The room would be used for numerous campus wide student activities, community service and enrichment classes, Foundation events, serve as a large meeting space, as well as community events and being open for public use.
