Adult Education / GED
The Student Success Center houses the LCC Adult Education Program.
The LCC Adult Education Program serves individuals 16 years and older:

Prepare to take the GED test, in order to receive their Kansas State High School Diploma from the Kansas Board of Regents.

Receive instruction to improve basic skills in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Technology.

Raise skill levels to gain employment or promotion.
Classes are held year round at the Student Success Center in Parsons, Kansas.
Services
- Free instruction - $39.00 material fee
- Basic skills instruction in reading, writing, math, and everyday survival skills
- GED test preparation (high school equivalency diploma)
- Computer labs for student use
Adult Education Orientation Classes
Orientation is a three day enrollment process in which individuals will sign paper work and take the TABE reading and math appraisal tests. A valid Kansas Driver's License or ID will be needed for GED Testing. Call 620-820-1124 or 620-820-1182 for information.

GED Information
What is the GED?
GED stands for General Educational Development. This battery of tests is for individuals who do not have a high school diploma. When you pass the GED tests, you will receive a Kansas State High School Diploma from the Kansas Board of Regents.
Tests
The GED is comprised of four tests with a varying number of questions:
- Reasoning Through Language Arts - The test includes reading and interpreting passages, using evidence to support conclusions and grammar and sentence structure.
- Social Studies - The questions are from the areas of reading and writing in Social Studies, applying Social Studies concepts, and applying mathematical reasoning in Social Studies.
- Science - The questions are from the areas of reading and writing in Science, applying Science concepts, and applying mathematical reasoning in Science.
- Mathematical Reasoning - The questions are from the areas of algebra and quantitative problem solving. The Mathematics test has 2 parts; calculator allowed on second part.
Who can take the GED?
To be eligible to take the GED tests you must:
- Be at lest 18 years of age OR
- Be 16 or 17 years of age and obtain a Compulsory School Attendance Disclaimer from an official of the school district in which you live
- Have taken the official practice tests at an authorized testing center
- Have a current photo id
How much does the GED cost?
GED orientation classes have a $39.00 material fee and include the practice tests. The GED Test battery costs $156.00 and all subsequent retakes are $13.00. Please contact the SSC for testing dates.
Scholarships for GED graduates
Students who obtain their GED may be eligible for tuition scholarships at Labette Community College. Usually, these scholarships are based on financial need. We will help you apply for scholarships if you are interested in taking college-level courses.
