Steps to Graduate


Degree Check Request

Students must complete a Degree Check Request for all majors they plan to graduate with by submitting a completed Degree Check Request form, signed by their advisor, to the Registrar’s Office.  The form will not be accepted if the advisor has not signed it.

The completed Degree Check Request form must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office by October 31 for Fall Semester graduates and January 31 for Spring Semester graduates.

Before the official degree check will be evaluated by the Registrar:

  • official high school transcript, General Education Development (GED) or State Certificate must be on file in the Registrar’s Office;
  • all official college transcripts from other institutions must be on file in the Registrar’s Office;
  • the student’s college hours completed and currently enrolled in must equal 42 credit hours;
  • the degree check request form must be signed by the student’s advisor and
  • the degree check request form must be completed in its entirety or will be returned to the advisor.

Students who lack 6 credit hours or less at the end of the spring semester are eligible to apply for and participate in the graduation ceremony.

Additional Graduation Information for May 2025 Graduates

Degree Requirements:

  • STUDENTS must submit official final high school transcript, General Education Development (GED) or State Certificate to the Registrar’s Office.
  • STUDENTS must provide official transcripts for all transfer work to the Registrar’s Office.
  • STUDENTS must maintain an overall 2.0 or above GPA to be eligible to apply for graduation.
  • STUDENTS who lack 6 credit hours or less at the end of the spring semester are eligible to apply for and participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • STUDENTS who apply for May 2025 graduation will be listed in the college’s commencement program; however, listing in the program does not mean that a candidate has met all qualifications for a degree. The program is available at the commencement ceremony. Diplomas will be awarded only to students who successfully complete all degree requirements.
  • UPON CONFIRMATION of degree requirements and clearance of all financial delinquencies, degree diplomas will be mailed by the end of June. All degree candidates should make sure their correct diploma mailing address has been given to the Registrar’s Office. This is essential for ensuring timely receipt of your diploma, particularly if you will be moving from the Parsons area following graduation.

TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS:
In order to obtain either official or unofficial copies of transcripts, all financial obligations to Labette Community College must be cleared.

For an unofficial copy of your transcript, you may print one from your RedZone Account. You will need your username and password to access your Redzone account. If you need help with this, contact Computer Support at ComputerSupport@labette.edu or call 620-820-1146.

To obtain an official copy of your LCC transcript, all students must complete an official transcript request and pay the required transcript fee. This link will take you to the National Student Clearinghouse, which provides this service for LCC. The site will walk you through placing your order, including deliver options and fees. Order updates will be emailed to you. You can also track your order online. Please make sure to select “Mail after degree is posted” when submitting transcript requests to ensure any degrees earned will be included.


DeCEMBER GRADUATES

Congratulations! According to your LCC Degree Check, you have either completed all your degree requirements or you are currently enrolled in courses that will complete all your requirements to be considered a LCC December Graduate.

Your official LCC transcript will reflect your graduation date, December 14, 2023, once the Registrar has completed a final graduation verification.

Diplomas will be mailed out to graduates, who do not have any financial obligations to our institution, by the middle of February.

Commencement offers you a chance to celebrate your accomplishments with fellow graduates, faculty, family and friends. December graduates are eligible to participate in the Spring Commencement Ceremony, which will be Friday, May 16, 2025.

Letters will be mailed to all graduates in February and will give information on how to order your caps and gowns for the ceremony.

Degrees

Students will receive notification from the Registrar indicating whether they have met the degree requirements. If requirements have been or will be met by successfully completing six credit hours or less, additional graduation information will be sent to the Eligible Graduate.

Degrees are awarded two times a year, December/Fall term and May/Spring term, to students who have met all requirements.

The Graduation Ceremony is held in May for both the December and May Graduates.


Diplomas

Ordering Diplomas:

There is no charge for the Initial Diploma.  Additional Diplomas can be ordered at an additional cost of $15.00 and must be ordered by March 22, 2025. Contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@labette.edu if you wish to order additional copies of your diploma.

Diploma Policy

All financial/academic holds must be cleared before a diploma can be mailed.

Diploma Distribution

Diplomas for Eligible December Graduates will be mailed out by the end of February to those graduates who do not have any financial obligations to our institution.

Diplomas will be mailed out by the end of June to those students that have met their graduation requirements at the end of the spring semester and who do not have any financial obligations. Make sure the Registrar’s Office has your correct address.

Diploma Covers

Students attending the commencement ceremony will receive a diploma cover at the ceremony. Students who do not attend the ceremony, can request a diploma cover to be mailed to them by emailing the Registrar’s Office by May 1st at registrar@labette.edu.

Ordering Replacement Diplomas (only previous graduates)

$50 Replacement Fee

To order a Replacement Diploma, please submit payment of $50 to the Business Office and the completed order form to the office of the Registrar either in person, by mail or upload form to Admissions/Registrar Dropbox.

The request must include the following information: Full name as to appear on diploma, degree and major, date of graduation and address to send diploma.


Eligible Graduates

Graduation Plans: (No Graduation fee for Caps and Gowns or Diplomas)

Apply for Graduation All graduates, attending the graduation ceremony and that would like to be recognized as a graduate must Apply for Graduation, which is where the graduate will indicate how they want their name to appear on their diploma and if they plan to attend the graduation ceremony.

Ordering Graduation Apparel:

Cap and Gown can be ordered from College Graduation Products by Herff Jones.

Wearing of Graduation Apparel:

Students may only wear LCC issued caps & gowns, tassels, honor cords and/or PTK stoles. Graduation caps can be decorated but inappropriate designs and words on caps and/or gowns will disqualify students from being part of the graduation ceremony. Wearing of corsages, boutonnieres or any other ornamentation is not appropriate to academic protocol.

TASSEL PLACEMENT: Place tassel on right side of mortar board. Following conferral of degree, place tassel on left side.
CAP: Wear it squarely on top of the head, board parallel to the floor; not cocked to the sides, forward or back.

GOWN: Gowns need to be fully zipped in the front.

Scholastic Honors

Graduation with honors shall be determined by the following grade point averages as calculated the semester prior to graduation, which will include both LCC credit hours and hours transferred in from other colleges.

  • Students with a 4.0 LCC academic average are designated as Summa Cum Laude.
  • Students with a 3.75–3.99 LCC academic average are designated as Magna Cum Laude.
  • Students with a 3.50–3.74 LCC academic average are designated as Cum Laude.

Honor students will be identified in the graduation program and may wear a gold cord during the graduation ceremony.
