Parsons, KS-Student Support Services, of Labette Community College, announces the March Student of the Month, Marleigh Head of Parsons, KS. Head is a sophomore Early Childhood Education major who anticipates graduation this May.
In her time at LCC, Marleigh has put her education into practice by working at the daycare at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center and volunteering as a nursery provider at the First Baptist Church of Parsons. Additionally, she has worked with special education students and teachers at Garfield Elementary School in USD 503. “I am inspired by the children that I work with,” Head commented. “They're who make me strive to be a better teacher.”
Head had high praise for Sharla Hopper, Early Childhood Education advisor.
Marleigh has participated in SSS since she first enrolled at LCC and counts the assistance of program director, Kelly Kirkpatrick, and academic advisor, Rebecca Roach, as helpful in her success while a student. “They made sure even when I thought I couldn't do it that I kept going. I wasn't scared of new changes, because they have helped me to where I will take on anything,” Marleigh said.
Student Support Services is a TRIO Program funded by the United States Department of Education to improve the persistence, transfer, and graduation rates of first-generation and income-eligible college students at LCC. Student Support Services serves 200 students each year with an annual budget of $280,000.
