Labette Community College Designated a Military Friendly® InstitutionParsons, KS- Labette Community College was recently rated as a Military Friendly® institution. This designation will create services and opportunities for LCC military-connected students.

Military Friendly® is the military ratings division of Victory Media, a service-disabled, veteran-owned business. Military Friendly® rates companies and colleges on their programs to recruit and retain military veterans as employees and students. Military Friendly® is not a generic phrase or moniker that an organization or institution can self-assign, nor is it a term that is owned, controlled or defined by the federal government. The organizations and institutions that choose to participate in the process earn their Military Friendly® designation. The mission of Military Friendly® is to create maximum professional opportunity for our nation’s military service members, veterans and military spouses.

Labette Community College’s mission is to provide quality learning opportunities in a supportive environment for success in a changing world. Part of creating that supportive environment is to provide a welcoming environment, quality education, and a path to success for all military-connected students. LCC's Military-Connected Student Services has staff available to provide one-on-one assistance to support military-connected students in their endeavors to improve themselves through higher education, to transfer to a four year degree, or enter the workforce. Assistance with academics, VA Benefits, career, financial and personal counseling, tutoring, accommodations, and disability services are available. LCC has also established GREEN ZONE training to help provide awareness & information to staff at LCC so that they can better support military-connected students.

To earn the Military Friendly® rating, LCC was measured on three primary areas:
  1. Engages the prospective military student or employee in a recruiting environment.
  2. Educates the military student or employee once he or she is part of the company or school.
  3. Employs the military student or employee in meaningful employment.
Sara Comer; LCC Military-Connected Student Services Coordinator, VA School Certifying Official, and LCC SALUTE National Honor Society Chapter Director has worked the past year to support the Military-Connected Student Services initiative, tracked incoming military-connected students and their academic progress, developed a student veteran guide, and worked with military students who are called to active duty among numerous other initiatives. Comer, along with Trent McGown, are sponsors for the newly formed Student Veterans Organization on the LCC campus.
