Parsons, KS- Walmart seeks to create value in the communities around the world where they operate; strengthening them through local grants and supporting programs that help them thrive.
“We invest in our communities by supporting programs that strengthen community cohesion,” said Bob Nicholson, Parsons Walmart store manager. “The Labette Community College Foundation is clearly strengthening our community through higher education and improvements to the local campus. Walmart is proud of the change LCC is bringing and pleased to add our support. Many of our associates and/or their family members have been or currently are LCC students and graduates.”
“The LCC Foundation is nearing the successful completion of our Athletic and Academic Complex capital campaign,” Lindi Forbes, LCC Foundation Executive Director, said. “We are seeking to raise $5,729,900 in order to meets of our students. We’ve raised $5,056,565 so far and the $4,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation will help us in reaching our goal. Driving through Parsons, you’ve seen the other improvements to our campus, which are the amazing results of our Board of Trustees, alumni, neighbors, foundations and businesses coming together to support LCC students. In the last eight years, LCC has added a state-of-the-art Health Science Center, relocated the LCC Library to Main Street, and partnered with Cardinal Villas to provide new student housing. Our Pathways to the Future Campaign will be complete when we are able to renovate and expand our athletic facility by adding air conditioning, new classroom spaces, indoor softball and baseball practice areas, and a dedicated wrestling training room among, and other much-needed improvements.”
Walmart believes that strengthening local communities creates value – for business as well as society. That’s why Walmart empowers each store to strengthen and support their local communities. Each year, U.S. stores award local cash grants ranging from $250 to $5,000. These local grants are designed to address the unique needs of the communities where Walmart operates. They include a variety of organizations, such as animal shelters, elder services, and community clean-up projects.
In 2019, Walmart stores provided more than $42 million in local grants. Now, in 2020, they are helping Labette Community College. This generous support from the Walmart Foundation will also help the LCC Foundation meet a $500,000 Mabee Challenge Grant requirement. LCC must raise $673,335 by January 14, 2021 to earn the $500,000 grant from the Mabee Foundation of Midland, TX and complete the fundraising goal.
