Two Receive Latzer Art Award for Fall Semester

Parsons, KS- The Labette Community College Gallery Committee has chosen two students, Alivia Benedict and Heather Boss, as the winners of the John and Bonnie Latzer Student Art Award for the Fall 2020 semester. The Latzer Art Award was established to recognize student achievement in the Fine Arts at Labette Community College.
The two students will receive a $500 scholarship each to be used the following semester. The award may be applied to tuition, fees and/or books.
A McCune, KS native, Benedict is a graphic design technology major. She said, “Winning this award/scholarship means a lot to me! I was surprised, as there were so many great pieces for judges to choose from." Benedict’s photo was created in the Digital Photo I class and entitled, “I’ve Been Everywhere”.
Boss created her painting in an Art Appreciation class and titled the winning piece, “Egyptian Madonna”. “There were so much beautiful pieces on display, I was surprised when they told me I was a recipient of the scholarship. This scholarship will help in so many ways to pay for my education. I plan to take more art classes next semester,” said Boss. Boss, a Parsons native, is an art education major.
The winning pieces will be permanently on display at Labette Community College.
