Parsons, KS – The Labette Community College (LCC) Foundation and Alumni Association Board of Directors held its July meeting Monday evening at the LCC Event Center and welcomed several new board members and new officers including a new President of the Board. During the meeting the presidential gavel was passed from Greg Chalker to Jim Zaleski.

Additional new officers include Jennifer Rush as the new vice president, Susan Johnson as the new secretary and Teresa Hays as treasurer, Chalker will move to the immediate past president position. New Board members include Courtney Stangle, Lorraine Evert, Gary Goodnight and Jodeci Turner.

After receiving the gavel Zaleski made some brief comments, “It’s an honor to serve on this board, but our real challenge in the coming months will be to live up to the outstanding job done by our predecessors,” he said. “Specifically, I want to thank outgoing president Greg Chalker who sat at the helm during the bulk of the recent capital campaign, his leadership, personal experience and knowledge of the athletic landscape of Labette County was invaluable,” Zaleski concluded.

The Athletic Complex capital campaign funding not only came in for its completion, but the campaign exceeded its goal by more than $260,000. A total of $7,039,605 was raised not only for the building, but also for endowed scholarships and the annual fund.

"It has been my honor to serve on the LCC Foundation Board the past 7 years,” said Chalker.  “The things we have accomplished could not have been possible without the tireless leadership of Executive Director Lindi Forbes and all of the college staff that support her.  The Foundation is fortunate to have Lindi."
The construction will address long-standing needs in the gymnasium and more than double the size of the facility making it a true Athletic Complex. Highlights to the existing building include adding air-conditioning, new stadium seating, an additional practice court area, improved athletic training room, a booster room and concession stand.

The additional construction will house new classroom space, a student fitness center, lockers and showers to address the shortage, a new weight room, an indoor softball and baseball practice space, and a dedicated wrestling room.

The purpose of the Foundation is to raise money from alumni, friends, and businesses in support of college programs. The majority of Foundation support is for scholarships. Support is also provided for buildings and grounds, faculty/staff development, student activities, equipment and supplies, and community outreach.
