LCC To Host Cancer Awareness Benefit Games
January 12, 2024 |
Labette Community College (LCC) will host Cancer Awareness Benefit Games on Saturday, January 27. The women’s basketball team will start play at 2:00 p.m. against Johnson County, and the men will follow at 4:00 p.m. The event aims to raise funds for Labette County Relay for Life. It will include various activities such as a cancer information booth, a selfie station, and a special recognition of cancer survivors and victims.
To support the cause, Cardinal Strong t-shirts featuring the artwork of renowned sports artist Ted Watts will be sold through the online store at https://lccrelay24.itemorder.com/shop/home/. The deadline to purchase shirts is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, so they can be printed in time for the game on January 27. The shirts come in white or ash grey, featuring the red Cardinal Strong graphic on the front and the full-color Watts artwork on the back. All proceeds from shirt sales will go towards Labette County Relay for Life.
Lindi Forbes, LCC Spirit Squad sponsor, expressed excitement about featuring Ted Watts's artwork on this year's Cancer Awareness shirts. The artwork was created several years ago for Labette County Relay for Life, and when this year's Relay for Life Team wanted to reuse it, they reached out to Ted's son, Thom Watts, who gave his enthusiastic approval to use the portrait in any way.
Additionally, freshly popped popcorn, provided by the Student Government Association, will be available by donation to raise more funds for the Relay for Life event. The Radiography Club also hosts a Chili Feed fundraiser before the games on January 27, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. or while supplies last at the Cardinal Event Center. For $6.00, visitors can get a bowl of Chili, dessert, and a drink. Fritos and fixings will also be available to make a walking taco or Frito chili pie. The proceeds will help students attend the state radiography convention in April.
Don't forget to place your shirt order today and mark your calendar to attend the Cancer Awareness Activities on January 27. Thank you for helping make Labette County Cardinal Strong!
