About Talent Search

What is educational Talent Search?

Talent Search is one of eight Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) designed to assist students who have the potential to succeed in college. Simply put, the goal of Talent Search is to encourage students to graduate from high school and to continue their education at a college, university, technical, or vocational institution.

Who can Talent Search help?

The Talent Search program helps middle and high school students who want to make the most out of their educational experience. Talent Search provides students with the support they need to help them be successful in school and to learn how to prepare for success in college. These students are more likely to have the self-confidence and the desire to earn a degree from a college, university, technical or vocational institution.

How does Talent Search work?

A Talent Search Educational Advisor makes regular visits to schools to meet with students and provide them with informational presentations. The advisor is prepared to provide the following services:

  • Student support and mentoring

  • Educational support including study skills, time management, and goal setting techniques

  • Presentations on school success and leadership

  • Cultural Enrichment activities

  • Exploring career possibilities

  • Tours of college campuses and vocational and technical schools

  • Supplying information on student financial aid and how to get it

  • Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications

  • Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams including the ACT

Why participate in the Talent Search program?

Talent Search helps students find what best fits their educational needs or career choices by making them aware of the many opportunities available. Participants receive information about college admissions requirements, scholarships, and financial aid programs. These materials help students understand, and become familiar with, their educational opportunities and options. Being informed allows students to plan ahead, prepare, and make smart choices, which will in turn pay off!

Where can you go from here?

Anywhere you want to go! The TRIO Educational Talent Search program does not recruit for any specific college, university, or institution.

What does this cost?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Educational Talent Search is provided free of charge to students, families, and school districts. This program is funded through the United States Department of Education.
