LCC Psychology Classes Host Wellness Week

Parsons, KS- Labette Community College developmental psychology classes will host Wellness Week to raise awareness about mental illness and host events to benefit the community. The Wellness Week activities will take place November 7-12. All activities are free and the public is welcome to attend.
Dr. Jolene Klumpp, Psychology instructor at LCC, said “Wellness Week is a great opportunity for the students to give back to the community by hosting events each day in order to raise awareness of mental illness.”

Motivational Monday, November 7
Improve your community! Positivity encourages positivity. Stop into the Student Union and join the Develomental Psychology classes in posting motivational/encouraging notes at the charging station on Monday, November 7, 2016. Sticky notes and markers provided.
Talk About It Tuesday, November 8, 7:00 pm
Join the Developmental Psychology students for an evening listening and viewing original student work. Recite your poem, sing your song, share your visual art on stage Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at the Main Stage in Forest Park. This event is designed to raise awareness of adolescent mental disorders that often go undiagnosed and/or untreated and thus, seem invisible. If interested in sharing your work contact: lccwellnessweek@gmail.com (put “Talk About It Tuesday” in the subject box) provide your name, name of your piece, word processed poem, song, or photo of your visual piece, a mini autobiography and a picture of yourself by October 28, 2016. Anyone may participate. If you do not meet the deadline you still may participate, though you will not be included in the program.
Walk Em' Wednesday, November 9, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm & 4:00 – 6:00 pm
Join the Developmental Psychology students at PALS. The LCC population and Parsons community is enourgaged to walk dogs from the PALS animal shelter. You may walk dogs from 10 am -12 pm and 4 pm – 6 pm. PALS can only accommodate 10 people at a time so sign up quick. Thoughtful Thursday, Novmeber 10
Join the Developmental Psychology students at the Presbyterian Manor where you will visit with the elderly. Spots are limited; if interested send an Email to lccwellnessweek@gmail.com put “Thoughtful Thursday” in the subject box.
Fearless Friday, November 11
Join the Developmental Psychology students in honoring and thanking our veterans. Stop by the Student Union on May 9th and 10th and write a note thanking our vets for their service. Giant card provided.
Savin’ Saturday, November 12, 10:00 am
Join the Developmental Psychology students in a 5K run/walk at Forest Park, on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am. There is no fee involved only a run/walk to support Suicide Prevention. Buttons will be provided to all who attend.
