LCC Student Success Center Hosts Health Science Career Conference

Parsons, KS- On Thursday, November 8, Labette Community College will host a Health Science Career Conference for those wishing to be admitted to one of its six health science programs. The conference will begin at 10 a.m. in the Thiebaud Theatre on the Main Campus and will give attendees opportunities to compare each program’s pre-requisites, hear tips for preparing applications to help gain admission to each program, learn about professional standards for health care students from current leaders in the field, and discover the services at LCC to help students succeed. The conference will include tours of the Sonny and Sophia Zetmeir Health Science Building and opportunities to meet with representatives from each of the Health Science programs.

The six programs represented at this year’s conference will be

DENTAL ASSISTANT
The LCC DA Program partners with Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas for access to radiology equipment and student/patient interactions.  Coursework and hands on clinical instruction is done at the Cherokee Center.  In February 2013, CODA granted the DA program initial accreditation status.

DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY
Students no longer have to travel to Springfield or Topeka for this specialized training.  Accreditation was granted by CAAHEP in March 2013. 

NURSING EDUCATION
The first of the LCC Health Science Programs, the LCC Nursing Program has been training students for more than 45 years.  The Nursing Program offers both LPN and RN training. 

PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT 
The PTA Program is housed in the Ted Hill Physical Therapist Assistant Building and has been accredited since 2012. The program is designed to be completed in just one year. Physical Therapist assistants are in high demand and the field is expected to have higher than average growth by 2020. 

RADIOGRAPHY
This 23-month program prepares students to become qualified radiologic technologists.  The program is a building block to continue on to other imaging modalities such as Sonography, Radiologist Assistant, and more.

RESPIRATORY THERAPY
For nearly 30 years, the Respiratory Therapy Program has been training students how to save lives.  Respiratory Therapists are heart and lung specialists and work in a face-paced, diverse environment.
