The Workforce Education Department at Labette Community College (LCC) is hosting the 41st Annual Fire School on April 6 and 7. LCC has provided the continued education for full-time and volunteer fire fighters from across the region for over forty years.

Training sessions are led by representatives from area fire departments, Kansas Forest Service, Fools of Oz, Nelms Fire Company, One Warrior LLC and many more. Keynote speaker and Battalion Chief in Moore, Oklahoma, Corley Moore will speak on the nine principals of leadership in a presentation called “The 9 L’s.”

Ross Harper, LCC's Dean of CTE and Workforce, is pleased that the college is able to offer this unique training opportunity. "We're proud of LCC's long history of equipping area firefighters with skills and learning experiences to better prepare them to safeguard their communities," Harper said. "Because area fire departments continue to have limited budgets and limited access to resources, it’s is even more crucial for LCC to bring in experts who provide this high quality training annually at an affordable cost to participants"

Some coursework and hands-on training sessions are targeted to new firefighters, while other sessions will fulfill continuing education requirements for experienced firefighters. Course topics during the two-day training event include: wildland fires, vehicle extrication, interior firefighting, and two live burn classes.
