Direct Loan Application Process
Students who wish to apply for a Federal Direct Student Loan must complete the following steps.
Go to www.StudentLoans.gov and complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN). If you have any problems completing the MPN, please call 800-557-7394 for assistance. Sign in using your FAFSA PIN. If you do not have a PIN or have forgotten your PIN go to www.pin.ed.gov.
Complete the Entrance Counseling, this can be accessed from the government site, same location as the MPN www.StudentLoans.gov.
Complete and submit the Federal Direct Loan Request Worksheet.
Complete and submit the Financial Aid Review. To access your Financial Aid Review you will need:
Student Social Security Number
Student Date of Birth
Go to www.nslds.ed.gov Click the "Financial Aid Review" link
Click "Accept" to accept the privacy terms
Enter your personal information and click "Submit"
Print the screen showing your Financial Aid Review
If you have no records in NSLDS, print the screen which show "your identifiers were not found in the NSLDS" and submit as step #4.
All students receiving a Direct Student Loan while attending LCC will be required to complete the Exit Counseling upon leaving the institution. Exit Counseling is defined in the Entrance Counseling, which students are required to complete before receiving a Direct Student Loan. Students will receive an Exit Counseling Notification from the Financial Aid Office, instructing them to access and complete the Exit Counseling through www.StudentLoans.gov.
